LONDON (31 January 2017) — If you want to transform your love of writing into a career and see your work published in one of the UK’s most successful travel magazines, the National Geographic Traveller Travel Writing Competition 2017 could be your foot in the door. National Geographic Traveller aims to discover the best of British talent in its seventh annual competition.

Simply write 500 words on an inspirational travel experience. Keep it focused, capture the essence of a destination and ensure it has National Geographic Traveller’s defining features: immersive travel and authentic storytelling.

Pat Riddell, editor of National Geographic Traveller, said, “At a time when travel writing is seemingly more popular than ever, this is an incredible opportunity to win a trip of a lifetime to Greenland and be published in one of the UK’s best travel magazines.â€

The prize

The winner will see their piece published in the magazine and online and have the opportunity to write a blog on natgeotraveller.co.uk. Plus, they’ll win a 10-day Arctic Express: Greenland’s Northern Lights polar expedition with Quark Expeditions, worth £13,000. The trip will take in the world’s largest fjord system, Scoresby Sund, the fascinating Inuit settlements and people of Ittoqqortoormiit, and possibly some of the world’s most vivid displays of the Northern Lights. The winner will also have the chance to trek along the tundra, climb mountains and watch grazing musk ox and other Arctic wildlife. Expedition dates are 24 September to 3 October 2017 aboard the Ocean Nova. quarkexpeditions.com
