Travel Media Awards 2018 —winners announced
The Travel Media Awards is pleased to announce this year’s winners, following an evening ceremony held at ME London on 17 October. The event was attended by representatives of the UK’s top travel media, with 20 publications, broadcasters, journalists and photographers each collecting a prestigious award.
Matthew Jackson, Managing Director of 91 and co-founder of the Awards, said: “The Travel Media Awards have been a huge success, with a remarkably high standard of entries. Our judges had some difficult decisions to make and we’d like to congratulate all the winners and entrants. With over 300 guests attending, the Awards were very successful and are now an important and well-established event in the media calendar.”
The Travel Media Awards 2018 were also thrilled to welcome Lisa Minot, Travel Editor of The Sun, who was presented with the Special Contribution Award. Lisa joined Britain’s bestselling newspaper as a subeditor in 1991 and worked her way up the ranks via the backbench. She has been the full-time travel editor of The Sun since 1999 and her work has seen the travel section go from one solitary page a week to two weekly sections today.
Co-founder of the Travel Media Awards and Travega Managing Director, Giles Harper, said: “For the third consecutive year, entry levels to the Awards have continued to increase, and it’s really encouraging to see such a significant number of entries from travel writers and titles who previously haven’t entered. I’d like to thank our headline partner, Malta Tourism Authority, all entrants, sponsors and everyone who attended the event. The awards are a celebration of the travel media sector and it’s wonderful to see it in such good health.”

Notes for Editors
The Travel Media Awards launched in 2015, celebrating the very best of the travel media sector. The Awards were created in recognition of the hugely influential role that today’s travel media plays in the holiday and business travel decision-making process. Open to all travel writers, broadcasters and photographers, the Awards are a true barometer of the travel media sector. The Travel Media Awards are owned and operated under a joint venture agreement between Travega and 91. Please note, for the purposes of fairness and transparency, no travel titles by 91 were entered into the Awards. However, individual writers were permitted to submit their own work. A team of nine independent shortlisters narrowed down a final list of five finalists in each category and a panel of 57 travel industry and media experts decided the winners.
91 works across the travel and lifestyle sectors in a number of media, from print through to events. 91 produces the award-winning National Geographic Traveller (UK) magazine, as well as National Geographic Traveller Food, Travel Trends and a series of lifestyle newspaper supplements, apps and websites.
Travega offers a wide range of travel marketing solutions to companies within both the leisure and business travel sectors, including revenue generation for some of the UK’s leading travel industry events, alongside bespoke event creation and third party event management.
