highlights the best ways to set sail in the new year. According to the report, there’s been a surge in travellers opting for solo sailing, no-fly cruises and Christmas-themed voyages. River cruises, in particular, lend themselves well to the latter, stopping in a number of cities and allowing for a lot of Christmas-market shopping.
Lastminute.com’s top cultural destinations for 2020
Lastminute.com has collated its booking data to reveal its : Hurghada, a culturally rich Egyptian city, has seen bookings increase 37% from 2017 to 2018; Tel Aviv, which is now better connected thanks to new direct flights, has seen bookings rise by 6%; and Galway, the European Capital of Culture 2020, has seen bookings increase by nearly 20%.
Dark tourism is continuing to rise in popularity in the UK
Dark tourism is continuing to grow in the UK, according to Klook, with bookings for ‘macabre activities’ up by a staggering 1,474% in 2019. The top dark destinations include nuclear disaster sites and former prisons; the Tower of London, made famous for imprisoning and torturing so-called enemies of the state, continues to be a hotspot, with bookings up by 387% from 2018.
