26 July 2017, London: The Travel Media Awards are proud announce that chef and television presenter Rick Stein will be presented with a Special Contribution Award at the 2017 Awards ceremony.

Since the ’90s, Rick Stein OBE has been at the helm of over 30 cookery programmes, travelling the world in search of new recipes and discovering local traditions. In 2016, the BBC aired his superbly popular five-part Long Weekends series, followed by another last autumn in which Stein visited destinations such as Cadiz, Bologna, Bordeaux, Reykjavik and Vienna.

Rick’s love of travel and cooking bodes excellently for tourism, encouraging viewers to discover for themselves the cultural and culinary gems of each destination. His cooking escapades have also taken him to such far-flung destinations as India, Istanbul and the Far East.

Rick said: “I’m delighted that the series has been recognised by the Travel Media Awards and is encouraging people to visit some of the cities featured, which are generally not as well known but are fabulous places to go to.â€

Giles Harper, managing director of Travega and co-founder of the Travel Media Awards said: “We’re thrilled to have Rick Stein joining us at the 2017 Travel Media Awards as the recipient of the Special Contribution Award. Rick’s Long Weekends series was universally acclaimed and made for great viewing, and has without doubt encouraged viewers to travel to the destinations featured.”

The Travel Media Awards look forward to welcoming Rick Stein to the stage on Wednesday 18 October 2017 at ME London Hotel on the Strand for this year’s ceremony.
