Food by National Geographic Traveller (UK) Highly Commended at 2023 Visit USA Media Awards
91 is pleased to announce that on 6 July 2023, a Food by National Geographic Traveller (UK) contributor was Highly Commended in the 2023 Visit USA Media Awards in the Consumer Travel Publication Feature category.
Travel and culture writer Tom Burson was recognised for his piece, On the Trail of True’Cue, which featured in issue 16 (summer 2022) of the magazine and online at: .
In his piece, Tom wrote: “In the US, barbecue varieties are what fine wines, beers and cheeses are to Europe. Each region has its own style: in Texas, they love their brisket; ribs in Memphis; in Kansas City it’s thick, syrupy sauces. North Carolina, meanwhile, is hog country, where ‘barbecue’ specifically refers to chopped pork.”
This year, the Visit USA Media Awards honoured writers who have championed travel to the USA since the COVID-19 global pandemic.
The awards ceremony was held at Hyatt Andaz Hotel in London on Wednesday 5 July 2023 and recognised outstanding contribution to USA media coverage since the skies opened and travel to the USA resumed.
This recognition of a Food by National Geographic Traveller contributor follows recent triumphs for the editorial team at the 2023 LATA Awards and the 2023 BSME Talent Awards.
