91ÂþÎÝ 2022 highlights
It’s been another busy year for 91ÂþÎÝ. From National Geographic Traveller (UK)’s 100th issue to a range of successful events, here’s a look at some of our 2022 highlights.
The Masterclasses
returned in January and October with a series of one-hour writing and photography sessions.
The Masterclasses provided an opportunity for aspiring travel writers and photographers to immerse themselves in practical instruction and inspiration from some of the industry’s leading experts.
National Geographic Traveller (UK) celebrated its 100th issue
March saw National Geographic Traveller (UK) celebrate its 100th issue, marking 11 years of the award-winning magazine. The special issue included an 18-page feature charting the publication’s highlights over the past decade. To mark the occasion, the National Geographic Traveller (UK) team hosted an event in London for friends, colleagues and sponsors.
Living360
Living360, 91ÂþÎÝ’s digital lifestyle destination, continued to grow its readership during 2022 with its wide range of health and fitness, food and drink, homes and gardens, beauty, travel, finance and lifestyle content.
Throughout the year, Living360 has explored everything from the cost of living crisis to the world of interior design and home renovation.
Newspaper guides
91ÂþÎÝ continued to produce a range of newspaper guides as inserts for leading national titles, including The Telegraph, The Guardian and Evening Standard. From helping readers focus on sustainable spending in The Good Life to exploring Kaunas in The Travel Guide, our guides were packed with exciting and informative content that covered a variety of lifestyle and travel themes.
The second National Geographic Traveller (UK) Food Festival
Over the weekend of 16-17 July, thousands of food lovers poured into the Business Design Centre in Islington, London, where they were treated to a spectacular celebration of the culinary world.
The event was National Geographic Traveller (UK)’s second , building on the success of the inaugural event of 2019 and bringing together some of the culinary world’s biggest names and showcasing food and travel experiences from around the world.
Postcards redesign
The Summer 2022 issue of Postcards magazine saw the publication debut a fresh new design.
Postcards is an award-winning custom travel magazine published by 91ÂþÎÝ exclusively for Travel Leaders Network. The magazine is distributed to 170,000 top travel customers in the US, delivering exciting editorial on today’s most popular destinations and unique travel experiences.
The Travel Media Awards 2022
The is widely recognised as the premier awards event in travel media, and the only UK national awards recognising excellence and achievement across all forms of media. This year’s events took place on 27 September at The Dorchester, where Lonely Planet co-founder Tony Wheeler was honoured with a Special Contribution Award.
Israel Ministry of Tourism campaign
National Geographic Traveller (UK) collaborated with the Israel Ministry of Tourism, taking visitors on a culinary tour of the country via an eye-catching stand at the heart of the exhibition centre at November’s World Travel Market.
The photo gallery and supporting supplement explored Israel’s diverse gastronomical offering, while a helped showcase some of Israel’s most visually stimulating sites.
Awards for the 91ÂþÎÝ editorial team
A number of 91ÂþÎÝ’s editorial team were recognised with industry awards during 2022:
- National Geographic Traveller (UK) editor Pat Riddell was named Editor of the Year – Travel at the BSME Awards 2022.
- Former National Geographic Traveller (UK) commissioning editor Connor McGovern was awarded third place in the AITO Young Travel Writer of the Year category.
- Food by National Geographic Traveller (UK) assistant editor Farida Zeynalova was award the Travel Media Award at the ANTOR Media Awards dinner.
Several of National Geographic Traveller (UK)’s regular contributors were also recognised at both the AITO and the BGTW Excellence Awards.
Best of the World 2023
National Geographic Traveller (UK) revealed its annual list, rounding up 35 must-see destinations for 2023. Selections on this year’s list honour national parks and wildlife, outdoor activities and experiences, green travel and community-based destinations and journeys.
